Mojave Ghost Town Shack

It appears that I will be taking a long time to go thru photos from the desert trip. I'm still working on stuff from Day 1. Presently, this is one of my favorites. It's a shack near the intersection of Cima and Kelso roads -- shot probably about 1.5-2 hours after sunrise. It's an HDR of 3 shots, but I think I might prefer one of the non-HDR shots -- they are both really rich in color and shadow.

Goin' (lava) tubing...

Starting to dig into the 1000+ photos from the weekend jaunt to the Mojave Desert area. This one caught my eye while I was browsing -- this is inside a lava tube in some ancient volcanic cinder cones -- went down a hole and crawled on my belly with my tripod and gear. I had a 580EX flash that I used to light the floor and back wall -- the light from an overhead hole in the tube helped light the way as well. I could have kicked myself for not bringing any gels for the flash, could have played with some other effects while I was down there... I got a lucky bounce of light off the front wall -- looks 'lava-ish'. Can't wait to start posting some of the other photos....

Outside

I stuck my foot out the door and went outside to shoot today. Needed to get some specific types of 'color' for the color class. Nice time outside and nice fall colors to boot.

different

just messing around tonight. goal was to the shoot the 3 secondary colors: green purple orange. we had some glass fruit that fit the bill. i hand-held some hexagonal mesh thing in front of the lens -- that's where that cross-hatch effect comes from -- and sidelit. i did go into photoshop and cropped a bit and added some purple back in, the grapes we just too dark, so used a purple filter on the stuff that wasn't green or orange. not sure i like the comp too much, but i do like the experiment with the mesh and crosshatching -- will have to remember that.

The Windex Bottle

Gosh, it's been awhile since I posted. Still thinking about color. This time, it is blue and aqua. Been navel gazing at a Windex bottle.
