C&C: Strawberry in the Barn

Just getting photos ready for class.

Canon 5D, 1/160s, f/16, ISO 100, 90mm on a 90mm lens, 20mm extension tube. White Lightning strobe with 10-degree grid - overhead softbox @ 3 stops below grid -- hand-held gold reflector.

Snuck a strawberry out of the fridge. My goal with this was to give a sundown feel inside a room like a barn and to show off the texture of the wood as well as the strawberry, so I turned the upper softbox down. I used the low angles and gold reflector to give it the sundown feel, maybe that worked, maybe not. White balanced with whibal card.

Opinions? Let's see what the instructor says about this one...

(Update 6/30 Instructor's comments: I like the placement of the strobe with the grid and the shadow it is making. The overhead light is very subtle and works as well. Gold is a great choice as a reflector but it's really competing with the main light here making this look like an on camera flash was used. I like the diagonal wood of the crate. Some fill from underneath might be really interesting and keep the openings from being so black too.)

Hey Brad, really like this shot. Before I read your commentary I was convinced that the strawberry was lit by sunlight. Great job.

Thanks Andrew. Yep, all done in the studio -- no barn needed!
